Academic Programs..........................
IST
The Instructional Support Team (IST) is an innovative program whose goals are to maximize individual student success in the regular classroom, while at the same time serving as a screening process for students who may be in need of special education services. IST is a positive, success-oriented program, which uses specific assessment and intervention techniques to help remove educational, behavioral, or affective stumbling blocks for all students in the regular classroom. If you have any further questions please contact Lisa Kutra or your child’s teacher at Hamilton Elementary School.
Reading Support
Reading support services are provided to students in grades K, 1, and 2 who need extra help with their reading. Students receive supplemental instruction from a reading specialist in a small group setting.
First graders may be eligible for participation in the Reading Recovery program, which provides intense daily one-on-one instruction designed to accelerate the child's reading progress. The Reading Specialists at Hamilton are Barbara Fisher, Lisa Kutra, Patricia Torok, Lisa Schwartz, and Judy McDermott
Math Support
Math Support services are provided by a Math Coach for students having difficulty in the discipline of Math in grades K, 1st and 2nd grades. These lessons INCLUDE the same concepts and approach as are being taught in the classroom as well as additional skills and concepts appropriate to the grade level as deemed necessary by an agreement between the classroom teacher and the Math Coach.
All Math Support work with the Math Coach is based on the Pennsylvania State Anchors and the work has the direction of Mastery in the areas required under the PSSAs as administered in the 3rd grade. The work always has a far-reaching goal toward that Mastery level and the Math Coach is yet another individual as we "web" together in our instructional team to bring about all aspects of future success for your child in Math.
Jean Field and Cindy Emeigh are Math Coaches at Hamilton Elementary School.
Speech
