About Our Principal

Dr. Karen Houck - Principal, Hamilton Elementary

She began her administrative career at Stroudsburg Area School District in 2005 as an Assistant Principal at the Junior High.  She took the helm at the Middle School in 2007, and joining Hamilton in 2013.  Before that Dr. Houck was an administrator at East Stroudsburg North HS and Lehman Intermediate.  Her teaching career began at JTL in 1998, where she taught Middle School Science.  She is also one of the few administrators who began their career in public education as a school bus driver back in the early 90's, so she has a global perspective.

She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from East Stroudsburg University and pursued her Master’s of Educational Leadership degree at Wilkes University. She obtained her Doctorate Degree in Organization Leadership and plans to be an online facilitator. She currently facilitates (few times a year) for the National Institute of School Leadership for Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership and is currently working on her national certificate.

Dr. Houck resides in Ackermanville with her family. She enjoys the outdoors, travel, boating, skiing, and paddle boarding on Lake Wallenpaupak, helping her husband with never ending home improvement projects, exercising her German Sheppard ad Chiweenie, and planning weddings or events thanks to her 6 daughters (blended family).  Dr. Houck's oldest daughters just gave her 5 grand babies in the last two years so she enjoys playing school with them.
