About Our Principal
Dr. Karen Houck - Principal, Hamilton Elementary
She began her administrative career at Stroudsburg Area School District in 2005 as an Assistant Principal at the Junior High. She took the helm at the Middle School in 2007 and joined Hamilton in 2013. Before that Dr. Houck was an administrator at East Stroudsburg North HS and Lehman Intermediate. Her teaching career began at JTL in 1998, where she taught Middle School Science. She is also one of the few administrators who began their career in public education as a school bus driver back in the mid-'90s, so she has a global perspective.
She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from East Stroudsburg University and pursued her Master’s of Educational Leadership degree at Wilkes University. She obtained her Doctorate Degree in Organization Leadership and is a published researcher on Transformation Leadership (gcu.academia.edu/karenhouck). For the last 14 years, she is also a part time facilitator for PA's principal induction program (PIL) and has her national certificate.
Dr. Houck resides in Ackermanville with her family. She enjoys children, the outdoors, travel, boating, skiing, and paddleboarding on Lake Wallenpaupack, helping her husband with never-ending home improvement projects, exercising her German Sheppard and Chiweenie, and planning weddings or events thanks to her 6 daughters (blended family). She and her husband have 10 grandbabies ages 8-newborn, and still have 2 weddings to go! She states she is grateful to have such a large family despite how challenging it is to keep up with everyone.
She adds a good sense of humor and her love for travel keeps her going!
